ARCA WEST: David Smith perseveres in another race with zero attrition

by Ben Schneider / LASTCAR.info Staff Writer

David Smith finished last for the 4th time in his ARCA Menards Series West career in last Friday’s Legendary Billy Green 150 at Colorado National Speedway, completing 142 of 150 laps in his No. 05 Shockwave Machine Suspension Seating Toyota.

The finish came in Smith’s 45th career ARCA West start.

Despite turning 76 years old in March, Smith has remained busy as ever as the 2026 ARCA West season approaches its midpoint. The Canadian driver his finished under power in all five races this season and even led 19 laps at Tucson Speedway in April. His most recent feature appearance on this site came at last season’s Phoenix finale, a race that saw 26 entries and 25 starters with all 25 finishing under power.

Similarly, Smith’s last-place result at Colorado came in a race without any cars forced behind the wall, although the field size was nine entries shorter with just 16 cars starting the race. In an event with only one caution for cause (not counting the scheduled halfway break), Smith soldiered on from a 13th-place starting spot to complete 142 laps, scoring a total of 78 championship points: 28 for finishing 16th and an additional 50 for running each of the first five races of the season.

Following Smith up the running order was Scotty Milan, a Colorado native making his series debut. Milan spun on Lap 52 to bring out the race’s only natural caution, but recovered to finish 15th, five laps behind the leaders and one lap behind teammate Tyler Tomassi. Rounding out the Bottom Five were Will Robinson and Alonso Salinas, who completed 147 and 148 total laps, respectively. Mia Lovell, who started last after not taking a lap during qualifying, gained 10 positions throughout the night to score a sixth-place finish.

At the front of the field, Robbie Kennealy took pole position and led the first 23 laps, but it was defending champion Trevor Huddleston who took the lead on Lap 24 and never looked back to win the 11th West Series race of his career and second in a row this season. Kennealy finished second, while Colorado’s own Cade Fox took an impressive third in his series debut.
