ARCA: Berlin trends continue at Elko as Campbell does not start, Clagett finishes last again

by Ben Schneider / LASTCAR.info Staff Writer

John Clagett finished last for the 3rd time in his ARCA Menards Series career in last Saturday’s Shore Lunch 250 at Elko Speedway when his No. 10 FastTrackRacing.com Toyota fell out with mechanical issues after 4 of 250 laps.

The finish came in Clagett’s third career ARCA start.

After 20 years away from the driver’s seat, Clagett returned to the ARCA Menards Series at Berlin, where he turned six laps for Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track Racing team. As the series travelled to Elko the following week, Clagett remained behind the wheel of Fast Track’s No. 10 Toyota, where he once again took the green flag in an apparent “start-and-park” effort, this time running just four laps before pulling behind the wall. The back-to-back last-place finishes make Clagett the first repeat last-place finisher in the 2026 season across any of ARCA’s three divisions.

A total of 21 cars appeared on the entry list. In another repeat of Berlin, Kevin Campbell’s No. 81 Chevrolet was again on the entry list, but did not record a time in practice or qualifying, nor did the driver take the green flag to start the race. Campbell was credited on Racing-Reference with 21st-place points and another “did not start” status. From perhaps the least-funded car in the field to the objectively most-funded, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Max Reaves also did not participate in qualifying after losing an engine in practice. While the JGR team was allowed to replace the engine on Reaves’ No. 18 Toyota, his inability to set a qualifying time left him 20th on the starting grid.

Joining Clagett behind the wall was Michael Maples, who completed 72 laps before crash damage took him out of the race. In a race of low attrition, 90% of the field finished under power, as Dale Shearer, Nate Moeller, and Brad Smith rounded out the Bottom Five.

Reaves, meanwhile, overcame his 20th-place starting spot and drove the front of the field, taking the lead for the first time on Lap 82 and leading a total of 113 laps on his way to yet another ARCA win for Joe Gibbs Racing. A pair of Nitro Motorsports teammates, series points leader Jake Bollman and local Minnesota driver Ty Fredrickson, finished second and third respectively.
